Future Echoes

Future Echoes

[2025/2026] A collaboration between soprano Elisabeth Hetherington, the ADAM string quartet, and light designer Boris Acket – offers a musical journey through the breaking and building of traditions. The programme centres around Arnold Schoenberg’s Second String Quartet, which, with the addition of the soprano part, shattered convention, and traditional harmony in the early 20th century. In order to demonstrate this avant-garde departure from tradition, Future echoes weaves together echoes from the past by juxtaposing music emerging from 16th-century concept of the ‘harmony of the spheres.’ Through this exploration, we unravel the intriguing connections that bind these seemingly disparate worlds: poetry, harmony and history.

The program culminates in the premiere of a commission that provides commentary on Schoenberg’s innovation while reflecting on the evolution of musical expression. Through the music and light, Future Echoes flows through the place where tradition and innovation converge in an exploration of past, present, and future.
