Natural Selection

Natural Selection

[2025/2026] Natural Selection explores our relationship with nature and the supernatural — a realm where beauty and danger intertwine, and transformation often comes at a cost. The programme moves through states of wonder, longing, fear, and surrender, tracing how humans have sought connection with forces beyond themselves through myth, poetry, and song.

Featuring music by composers such as Rebecca Clarke, Lili and Nadia Boulanger, Joseph Schwantner, and Claude Debussy, the programme weaves together a rich tapestry of styles — from jazz-inspired lyricism to folk song, from modern expression to impressionist colour.

Here, nature is not a backdrop but a living presence: sensual, unpredictable, and alive with mystery. Through shifting musical voices, Natural Selection asks what draws us toward the natural and the mythic — and what we lose, or gain, when we surrender to it.
